Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 13, 2026
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of 5KANA and this website, both provided by 5JAPANESE ("we", "us"). They're written in plain language for a small, free learning app — not as a substitute for legal advice.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using 5KANA, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the app or this site.
2. Use of the App
5KANA is provided for your own personal, lawful use. You agree not to misuse the app — for example, not to reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract its source code beyond what applicable law allows, not to interfere with its normal operation, and not to attempt to compromise, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the app or any service it relies on.
3. Educational Content
5KANA is an educational tool for learning Hiragana and Katakana. It's designed to help you practice and build familiarity with kana over time, but we don't guarantee any specific learning outcome, JLPT result, exam score, or level of proficiency. Your results depend on your own study, consistency, and many factors outside our control.
4. Intellectual Property
5KANA and 5JAPANESE — including their names, branding, app design, original written content, graphics, and software — belong to 5JAPANESE or its respective rights holders, and may not be copied, redistributed, or used without permission. Japanese kana characters themselves are part of the Japanese writing system and are not owned by anyone; nothing in these Terms claims ownership over the Japanese language itself or any third-party material referenced for educational purposes.
5. Advertising and Third-Party Services
5KANA may use third-party services, currently Google AdMob, to show an optional rewarded video ad. These services are provided by their own companies and are subject to their own separate terms and privacy policies, which we don't control.
6. External Links
5KANA and this website contain links to external, third-party websites — for example, our Patreon page. These links are provided for convenience. 5JAPANESE is not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of any third-party website you reach through such a link.
7. Availability
We may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of 5KANA or this website at any time, where reasonably necessary — for example, to fix a problem, improve a feature, or retire something that no longer works well. We'll try to avoid unnecessary disruption where we reasonably can.
8. Disclaimer
5KANA is provided "as is," on a best-effort basis, as a free educational app. While we try to keep it accurate and working well, we don't promise it will always be error-free, uninterrupted, or perfectly suited to every device. Nothing in this section is intended to exclude any right you have under mandatory consumer protection law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, 5JAPANESE is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of 5KANA or this website. This is a small, free app, and nothing here is meant to limit any liability that the law does not allow us to limit, or to override any statutory rights you have as a consumer.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time — for example, as 5KANA changes. The updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continuing to use 5KANA after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing Law
5JAPANESE has not yet formally established a specific governing jurisdiction for these Terms. Until that is confirmed, these Terms should be read as applying the reasonable, generally-accepted consumer protections of the country in which you use the app. This section should be reviewed and finalized with qualified legal advice before any commercial Google Play launch.
12. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent to 5japaneseapp@gmail.com.
These Terms are written as clear, reasonable guidance for a small free app, not as definitive legal advice. They should be reviewed by a qualified legal professional before 5KANA's commercial launch on Google Play.
